Stakeholders have proposed the reintroduction of the Home Ownership Campaign (HOC), improvements to the governance of strata building management and the provision of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure for consideration in Budget 2027, according to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.

Nga said the proposals were gathered during his ministry's Budget 2027 engagement session on Monday, which brought together 350 stakeholders from various sectors. He said all proposals would be reviewed by the ministry in terms of feasibility, priorities and the government's current financial capacity.

Other proposals raised at the session included the establishment of a command centre to support the smart city agenda, incentives to increase recycling rates, and green financing mechanisms to encourage investment in waste management technologies, as well as higher annual grants for volunteer fire brigades and healthcare facilities to address the challenges of an ageing society.

The ministry is scheduled to hold a discussion with the Finance Ministry on Sept 3 on proposed initiatives that could be put forward for the Finance Ministry's consideration.

Nga also said five of the six significant initiatives under this year's budget had exceeded their targets, while another is on track to meet or exceed its target by the end of this year. As of July 31, 304 maintenance projects for non-Muslim houses of worship had been implemented against a target of 200, and 102 Madani stall construction and upgrading projects for dilapidated public markets had been completed against a target of 60.
